Da Vinci – Inventions
Investigate a series of interactive, life-size machines crafted from the codices of Leonardo da Vinci that brings to life his work as an inventor, artist, scientist and engineer.
Who was Leonardo da Vinci? Some say an artist or philosopher. Yet, others note his brilliance as an inventor and engineer.
The truth is, all of these answers are correct. Leonardo da Vinci was the ultimate Renaissance man, and his famous codices contained intricate details regarding inventions that were astonishingly ahead of his time.
Created with the assistance of the Museo Leonardo da Vinci – Rome, Italy, and a number of experts in Italy and France, Da Vinci – Inventions presented by Bank of America celebrates one of the most revered and dynamic minds of all time: Leonardo da Vinci. The exhibition features 16 compelling themed areas of da Vinci’s work, offering you an unmatched look inside the mind of a man who laid the groundwork for some of modern society’s most impactful inventions such as the helicopter, airplane, automobile, submarine, parachute and bicycle.
All of the inventions brought to life for Da Vinci – Inventions were crafted by Italian artisans, many using the same techniques and materials from the Renaissance period. Scouring more than 6,000 pages from da Vinci’s personal codices (notebooks), the artisans deciphered hidden clues, intentional mistakes and mirror-image writing that da Vinci employed to keep his works top secret. Then, they faithfully crafted interactive and life-size replicas of these machine inventions. These works include the first concepts of a car, bicycle, helicopter, glider, parachute, SCUBA, submarine, a forerunner to the modern military tank, and an ideal city, to name a few.
Suitable for all ages, this amazing exhibition provides a fascinating insight into not only the mind of a genius, but also into the fundamental scientific and artistic principles that he discovered. Da Vinci – Inventions is an inspiration for the whole family.
Highlights of the exhibition include:
- Large-scale, interactive machine inventions brought to life for the first time by modern-day artisans in Italy.
- Representations of Leonardo’s famous renaissance art, including “Virgin of the Rocks,” “The Annunciation” and the controversial “La Bella Principessa.”
- Animations telling the story behind the “Vitruvian Man,” “The Last Supper” and the Sforza horse sculpture.
- Touch-screen versions of da Vinci’s actual codices
Da Vinci – Inventions will be on view from Saturday, June 9, 2018 through Sunday, December 9, 2018 on Levels 2 and 3 in the museum’s West Wing. Admission to Da Vinci – Inventions is included in all museum admission tickets.
Da Vinci – Inventions is presented locally by Bank of America. The exhibition was developed by Grande Exhibitions, under the kind auspices of the Commune di Roma, Commune di Firenze and Citta Di Venezia.

One of South Florida's leading contemporary dance ensemble, Dance NOW!Miami, entering its 19th year, is expanding its footprint with its “New Voices” initiative by commissioning a work from Jamaica-born and Miami-raised emerging choreographer Christopher Rudd.The world premiere of his work, sponsored by Miami Salon Group and Citizens Interested in Arts,will be featured in the company's first major program of the season, on Saturday, December 1, at Miami Beach's Colony Theatre. The program also includes a revival of Dance NOW Artistic Directors Diego Salterini and Hannah Baumgarten'sRandom Patterns of Falling Leaves,Salterini's Melody in Four Parts: Just Traveling,and the world premiere of Baumgarten's, Grace.
Rudd's choreography draws on contemporary ballet, modern dance, aerial approaches and his multicultural influences. He trained at the Thomas Armour Youth Ballet and is a graduate of Miami's own New World School of the Arts.He has gone on to perform with and choreographed for many leading groups, including Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montreal, the Elizabeth Streb company, and Cirque du Soleil, and is the director his New York-based ensemble, RudduR Dance. |

Registration/Events will begin at 12:00 PM. You can arrive at 12:00 PM or earlier to relax with your teammates until the games begin. We encourage members to invite family and friends to come cheer you on as there will be a fun and relaxing spectator area set up by the Boucher Brothers. Please visit the Boucher Brothers registration table by the Macys' truck and sign your team waivers, etc. The Macy's Truck will be fully stocked with lots of beach and athletic goodies for purchase and sales will benefit the Miami Beach Chamber Education Foundation.
TEAMS
Teams consist of 8 players. If you are interested in forming your own team and being a Team Captain, please contact Alicia at events@miamibeachchamber.com. If you’re interested in competing in the Olympic games as a participant, please register and we will place you in a team.
ATTIRE
Closer to the date, your team will be assigned a team color which you will need to wear.
Active wear should be worn at a minimum for the games. Feel free to bring swim attire for afterwards.

Bottled water will be available for free while supplies last. Snacks and beverages will be available for purchase at the Boucher Brothers kiosk.

Blindfold Construction
Communication and collaboration are key in this kind of challenge. Can you and your team stay calm under pressure?
Water Bomb
Teams will be separated and must use a large sling shot to sling water bombs to team members from a distance. The catchers cannot pass the designated perimeter when catching the bombs.
Fill the Bucket
Get running and get ready to get wet. This is an amphibious relay needing communication, coordination and collaboration.
Mission Impossible
A race style game involving a bit of strategy- teams nominate one player to be carried by team members to collect a slew of items on the ground before the other teams do.
Obstacle Course
A relay style race across a variety of challenging obstacles that all team members will participate in.
Pipeline
Participants must navigate a ball through a series of odd shaped pipes and race to complete the entire length of the course. The team to finish first wins.
Sports Relay
A mash up if everyone's favorite sport challenges combined into a relay race. Shoot and swing your way to first place!
Team Scrabble
A classic with a fun and competitive twist. Participants will excavate scrabble blocks from a sand pit to create as many words as they can.The team with the most letters used wins!
Tug of War
The childhood classic does not skip a beat here. Fight to the end and work as a unit!

| Dec 2 Zach Deputy at the North Beach Bandshell |
Zach Deputy is a multi-instrumentalist and songwriter based in Savannah, GA and best known for his live looping shows. He describes his style as “island-infused drum n’ bass gospel ninja soul.”
In making his fourth album Wash It in the Water, Zach Deputy dreamed up a sunny and soulful new sound that fuses funk, and folky pop with the spirited rhythms of soca and calypso. With that sound embodied by the album’s brightly melodic and richly textured title track, Wash It in the Water finds the Georgia-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist mining his Puerto Rican and Cruzan heritage for inspiration.
“Because of the music I was raised on, I’ve always heard rhythm in a very tropical, Latin-esque way—it’s something that resonates in the deepest parts of me,” says Deputy, who grew up in South Carolina. “When I was a kid my grandma would play a lot of salsa and soca and make me get up and dance to it, so in a way this is me putting my own spin on all that and bringing those sounds into a whole new era.”
With Deputy playing every instrument on the album, Wash It in the Water was self-produced in spontaneous sessions that took place in studios and homes and sometimes in Deputy’s garage. “Each time I recorded it was mostly just for fun,” he says. “I wasn’t trying to make anything happen, I was just going with what felt good.” As a result, Wash It in the Water bears a warm, natural feel that permeates everything from the intricate guitar work and tender vocals of “Jump in the Water” (a serenade to Deputy’s seven-year-old daughter) to the groove-heavy funk of “Put It in the Boogie” (a celebration of the joyfully chaotic life of a musician) to the piano-driven balladry of “Loving You” (a powerful meditation on unconditional love).

For our first edition, we are featuring Bob Diener who is the co-founder and President of getaroom.com, which was awarded best hotel booking site by frommers.com. After receiving his law degree from Cornell where he was an editor of the Cornell Law Review, he practiced securities and corporate law with the firm of Gibson Dunn & Crutcher. He co-founded Hotels Reservations Network which became hotels.com, took it public in 2000 and merged it with Expedia in 2003.

| Dec 12 H3 Third Open Panel Discussion about Cancer |
Our last two H3 open discussions provided powerful insights and ideas about the possibilities of better treatments, prevention, and the ultimate goal of finding a cure. The emphasis was on how individuals could improve their own health choices by having personal responsibility – “it begins with me”. Our Third Open Panel Discussion about cancer event will further explore new possibilities for improved treatments and living a better life as a cancer survivor – by working together!
The H3 Third Open Discussion panelists will focus on the following questions:
1) Why has the rate of cancer diagnosis remained relatively unchanged, even with all the “healthy” lifestyle changes people have made? Are we really making any progress with prevention?
2) Is it possible for conventional doctors and alternative practitioners to work together to provide the best combination of treatments for their patients? Are hospital doctors too bound by the medical system and insurance companies to step outside their traditional roles?
3) Realistically, how do you see the future of cancer? Is there hope? Are we making a difference? What more can we do?
H3’s Founder and Director Janinha Piazzetta is moderating the discussion panel. Each participant will address the 3 questions above from their unique perspective. The audience will have an opportunity to participate with questions towards the end.
Our Panelists:
Lisa Blumetti, ERPR+, HER2+, has been a stage IV breast cancer conqueror for 11 years. She is the Chairperson on the Board of Directors for H3 and has tried to use her cancer experiences to help further their mission of improving wellness through education about conventional and non-conventional modalities.
Eric W. Dickhaus, MD, Phd, specializes in Neuropathology, Psychiatry, and Cancer Epigenetics. His research interests include breast cancer epigenetics, targeted therapies, DNA methylation and histone acetylation and deacetylation. He professionally integrates traditional and non-traditional treatments, including psychology and psychiatry, with the goal of lifelong quality medical care for cancer patients.
Nilza Kallos, MD founded in 1981 the Breast Health Center & Diagnostic Ultrasound, the first multi-modality breast center in Florida. Dr. Kallos is board certified in Nuclear Medicine and a certified menopausal clinician. She joined University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center as the director of Women's Imaging at Lennar Foundation Medical Center.
Tamara Filgueiras, LCSW, is a Cancer Survivor, Psychotherapist, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She is the founder of Oasis Counseling & Wellness in Hollywood, FL, where she offers mental health counseling to adults, adolescents, and children; as well as to couples and families. She specializes in Anxiety & Mood Disorders, Coping with Trauma & Illness, as well as Stress Management.
Ann Fonfa, ADVOC is a breast cancer survivor, advocate and founder of The Annie Appleseed Project (www.annieappleseedproject.org) whose website now receives 90,000 monthly visitors. The organization runs a national conference each year in West Palm Beach, and smaller events throughout the year.
